I had this notice from one of my groups today and basically this is very important, it affects anyone who uses the internet and considers that they have a right to privacy in respect of emails and other means of communication:
"NO SL & no use of any internet accessing item for 24 hrs. April 22 Online ‘Blackout’ to Protest Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), This act will eliminate any Privacy protection offered by Google, Microsoft or any corporation. The gov. will tap ALL, know ALL . As philosophers this is our chance to ACT for a cause. I ask for your support.. No philosopher holding their internet life dear be on tomorrow. Hugs... of course you are free to choose."
If you care about keeping your life private and do not want any snooping on the internet, then join the protest and stay off of the internet altogether from midnight tonight for 24 hours. It's hard, we are all so used to talking to our friends around the world in SL and by email and other sources, but the choice is yours. I'll be watching the tv instead; Yikes! I never usually switch it on!

I’ve started to explore SL a little again, so I went over to Kat Kassner and Laredo Lowtide’s fabulous New London Village this morning for a catch up. I've always been inspired by Kat and Laredo’s amazing quality and detail they put into their building work in the London sim. Kat and Laredo have made a few changes since my last visit; The London Village looks even more awesome than it did before, and believe me it was fantastic then! You can now do archery and sword fighting there, they have a special group you can join; there is a distinct feel of history about the sim now, some medieval features which fit nicely into the present day architecture; in fact, just like the real London Town. I found a giant horn you can blow near the archery information spot, so I gave it a go! I quickly stopped when I realised this is probably so loud it would call all the people in the sim over. Luckily I was visiting very early in the morning when only a few early risers were there! The London Village seems to have more expanses of green fields than it used to have, and there's a hill which overlooks the London Village, just like Greenwich Park. There’s a great tavern called The Guy Fawkes Inn near the Tower of London and Trafalgar square, moved to a new location, has a life-like Nelson’s Column with the Admiral Lord Nelson peering out over the capital landscape. There’s always plenty going on in this brilliant sim, the Doctor Who theme adds to the magic of it all and the night-life is very popular. The London Village is a favourite with so many people, you will never find it empty, the regulars and visitors feel at home there. It‘s all thanks to Kat and Laredo’s hard work at keeping The New London Village one of the most vibrant meeting places in SL.

But then on April 8 another party was held, a surprise party, this time with a salute to the New York World's Fair of 1964 as the theme.
