The Little Dove's Message Of Hope And Strength

We were lucky to have escaped  the worst of the real life storm named Ophelia where I live in the UK yesterday.  The winds were very strong, but nothing like the force that swept through Ireland and the rest of Britain.  However, as I looked out of the window last night I spied a tiny collard dove huddled against the edge of the path and as it was getting dark I decided to go out and see if he was ok.  His eyes were closed, his head was down, but he was breathing.  I picked him up, he didn't even struggle, his soft velvety feathers covered his tiny frame and I guessed he was one of this years youngsters. I took him indoors and placed him in a spare bird cage that I had, he sat on the bottom of the cage his eyes still shut and he looked totally exhausted. I imagine that a gust of wind from the storm may have knocked him into the side of the house and things didn't look too good for him.  I tried to give him a few drops of water and some food, but to no avail, he wasn't responding to any of it. He was warm and cosy now though, so I decided to just let him sleep and if he was still alive in the morning I would take him along to the vets if he still refused to take any food.   I got up early to see if he was ok and he looked a little bit brighter, but he still wasn't eating. The vet didn't open until 8.30am so I had a couple of hours to wait, it was a nice day, the storm having passed, it was warm and sunny outside.

As I watched the tiny dove he suddenly lifted his head, his eyes now open and he started to preen his feathers. He began to recover very quickly, he wasn't huddled on the bottom of the cage anymore, he was up walking about, trying to find a way out of the cage.  I watched him carefully, would I take the risk of letting him go only to find that he couldn't fly properly and I'd have a job catching him again? I decided to give it a chance, it was ideal conditions as the day was calm and bright and he looked strong enough.

Taking the cage into the garden, I placed it on the lawn.  I opened the cage door and he just sat there on the little water dish. Putting my hand into the cage I lifted the water dish with him on it and placed him outside of the cage onto the grass.  He blinked in the sunlight and suddenly he spread his wings and soared up into the sky with so much energy that I was stunned.  He circled over the house getting his bearings and then he zoomed off into the distance happy and free.

I was delighted, the little sweetheart had survived his traumatic experience and he was strong and well again as he went off to join his friends.

It's sort of significant of the times we are living in, we are being battered by everything that life is throwing at us at the moment, through design or by accident, but we are survivors, we have an inner strength to keep us going and to help one another.  My little collard dove cheered me up enormously, I gave him shelter and he gave me joy!

The Gorgeous Sakura Prunus Mume (Cherry Blossom Tree) For All Seasons

I received another smashing tree from Hayabusa Designs this week and this one is a Sakura Prunus Mume (Cherry Blossom Tree).  The pretty swaying foliage once again suits every season with so many choices in the hud. A variety of spring colours through to winter hues.  In particular I like the winter menu which allows you to have some frosty branches and some untouched by the frost as you would in nature where some branches are more sheltered. So you have six versions in the winter menu giving you a partially white tree to completely white. It's the same with the other seasons too, a great choice. You can also switch to Auto Seasons, clicking on Winter gives you a lovely white bark on the tree too for the deepest of winters.  The Prunus Mume has 7 prims and you can purchase it at Hayabusa Designs.

The Fun of Fifty Linden Fridays Shopping

And there it was, Friday again already, surely it can't be a whole week has gone by so quickly since I had collected loads of brilliant bargains and all for just 50 Lindens each!

I joined the Fifty Linden Fridays group a little while ago, it has a huge number of members (32783) and I can see why.  People love a good deal even in Second Life and the stores that contribute to the Fifty Linden Fridays Group by selling their designs at such a cut down price are all quality top notch SL shops and garden centres. It's also a lot of fun, you log into SL and you know it's Friday instantly by the Fifty Linden Fridays group chat that is going on with excited people asking each other if they can find the special item on sale in one store or another, that is if they can't locate the sale item straight away.

I've had all ranges of amazing things, hair, dresses, shoes, furniture and at the moment some cool Halloween stuff. One Friday the group members simply couldn't find the 50L item for sale although the group sign was at the store.  We gave up looking and then someone later announced in group chat that although the item for 50L wasn't to be found the store was actually having an amazing sale of lots of its stock.  The designer specialised in property, beautiful houses, cottages, sheds, greenhouses, beach huts and summer houses and I was astonished to see that they had a large amount of their virtual buildings on sale for just 75L each.  Needless to say I treated myself to quite a few of them as I do change my parcel of land quite a bit.  I went back to my SL home and rezzed one of the large cottages,  I just can't believe what a bargain it was.

So as usual this Friday I received my group notecard, which lists all the stores and landmarks of the designers who were contributing this time and off I went on my fun shopping trip to catch the bargains.  Being that my inventory is a nightmare, I make sure to create a folder for each week's bargain hunt so that I can easily find the items again when I log back in. Plus the notecards are handy to keep if you are shopping for something other than the 50L Friday item, you have all the landmarks ready to hand to take you back to look around those wonderful shops and examine their wares properly.

I try to be selective about what I buy for 50L, after all, it does all mount up to quite a lot of Lindens if you buy something from each store on impulse just because it's there, and you may never even use it or wear it. I do usually buy quite a few items however, my poor inventory groans with yet more stuff to sort out!

The Fifty Linden Fridays' group is great and it's free to join, so get going and find yourself some lovely bargains!

Nilsy's Fashions Hit The Right Note For Halloween

I'd worn one of Fashion Designer Nils Tomorrow's dresses to the Glam Night at the HangOut last Monday, it was a beautiful Python print mini dress and it did feel very glamorous !  So I decided to take a trip back to Nilsy's store today to see if she had something I fancied for the SL Halloween Parties that will soon be happening within the next few weeks. I'd had a chat with Nilsy yesterday and she told me about her real life Fashion House business.  She sells a whole range of gorgeous designs in the real world as well as her fabulous virtual outfits.  It's no wonder Nilsy is so talented, she studied at Central Saint Martins University of the Arts in London and you have to be really gifted to be accepted for a course there. Nilsy is very busy trying to balance her real life business with her Second Life designs, so she rarely has time to visit the virtual world lately.

Nilsy's virtual store is packed with wonderful designs, lots of mesh as well as system clothes.  She has so much in her store that you will want to buy a few outfits and as the styles are around the 250L mark you can afford to splash out now and again.  I soon saw the Halloween dresses, the range is very original and excellent quality, I picked a skeleton dress in black with a silvery skeleton pattern and a daring low cut neckline. I'd been on a Fifty Linden Group Hunt a couple of weeks back and I had  bought a scary claw marked skin which gives you gashes over one eye, so I tried it on with my skeleton dress and I love the effect.  The claw marked skin is made by Belleza (Belleza Little Red FLF Catwa applier), so I was able to use the Catwa applier it with my Catwa Bento Mesh head.

Nilsy has elegant evening gowns, day dresses, cocktail dresses, pants suits  and everything you can imagine, plus she has some longer styles for people who don't always want mini dresses. Nilsy also has some lucky chairs, so if your initial comes up while you are visiting the store you get a free outfit too! Take a trip over to Nils Island Store and get yourself ready for some Halloween Trick or Treating!

Glam Rock Party At the HangOut In Memory of T.Rex's Marc Bolan And Sad News About Tom Petty

It's pretty hard to believe that Marc Bolan, the pretty boy of pop would have been 70 years old this year (He was born on 30 September 1947 and died in a car accident on 16 September 1977). Bolan had been best known for his years with his band T.Rex , they had a string of hit tunes like 'Get it on', Jeepster, 'Telegram Sam' and 'Children of the Revolution'.  HangOut owner/dj Janis Short had a Glam Rock Party tonight in memory of the famous rock artists and she played some of T.Rex's unforgettable songs along with lots of other amazing tunes from the same era. Janis has fond memories of Bolan in real life as she knew him, having interviewed him for the Music Magazine she had worked for. We had more sad news tonight too, rock star Tom Petty has died, apparently he suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday and died today.

The HangOut was full tonight with the beautiful people in their glam outfits and Janis had made the club look awesome, yet another great night at the HangOut Club.
